On July 31, 2026, we were proud to have our very own Prof. Ar. Rafiq Azam share his architectural journey at DATUM KL 2026, held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur.

The event brought together architects, designers, and enthusiasts from across the region for an engaging exchange of ideas, experiences, and visions for the future of architecture. Against this vibrant backdrop, Prof. Ar. Rafiq Azam shared reflections from his decades-long architectural journey, offering insights into the ideas, experiences, and values that have shaped his practice.

The programme commenced with introductions and a welcome address by the Chief Curator and Director of the Kuala Lumpur Architecture Festival (KLAF), followed by the opening presentation by Ar. Choo Gim Wah. The programme continued with thoughtful presentations by Ar. Martin Jochman, Ar. Paola Cattarin, Ar. Lim Koon Park, and Ar. Otto Ng, each offering distinct perspectives on contemporary architectural practice and its evolving possibilities.

Prof. Ar. Rafiq Azam concluded the main programme with a compelling presentation that reflected on his architectural journey and the broader relationship between architecture, people, place, and the environment. His presentation offered the audience an intimate perspective on a practice shaped by a continuous search for meaning, sensitivity, and a deeper connection with context.

The event concluded with exchanges among the speakers and attendees, creating an atmosphere of dialogue and shared inspiration. DATUM KL 2026 ultimately served as a meaningful platform for reflecting on the present and imagining the future of architecture, while encouraging a new generation of architects and designers to continue questioning, exploring, and shaping the built environment with purpose.
