On 25 August 2026, the Department of Architecture at BRAC University hosted the selection programme for the Rafiq Azam Travel Bursary (RATB) 2026, an initiative dedicated to providing architecture students with opportunities for international travel and experiential learning. Through exposure to diverse built and natural environments, societies, cultures, and architectural traditions, the bursary seeks to broaden students’ understanding of architecture beyond the classroom.
The RATB 2026 selection programme followed an open-idea presentation format, with each shortlisted contestant given five minutes to present their proposal before a distinguished jury panel. The participants were encouraged to demonstrate creativity, originality, curiosity, and a strong passion for learning while clearly articulating their ideas and aspirations.
The shortlisted student presenters were Tasnia Hoque, Sanjida Ahman, Ternim Masud, Ishita Roshnee, Anika Tabassum Biva, Maisha Fawzia Haque, and Parthib Monigram.
The presentations were reviewed by a distinguished Jury Panel comprising:
- Prof. Zainab Faruqui Ali, PhD — Professor and Chairperson, Department of Architecture, BRAC University
- Prof. Ar. Rafiq Azam — Professor and Principal Architect, SHATOTTO – Architecture for Green Living
- Ar. Zannat Jui — Coordinator and Associate Principal Architect, SHATOTTO – Architecture for Green Living
- Dr. Sajid Bin Doza — Associate Professor, Department of Architecture, BRAC University
- Mahia Mustary Nushin — Lecturer, Department of Architecture, BRAC University
Following the presentations and jury deliberation, Parthib Monigram was selected as the recipient of the Rafiq Azam Travel Bursary 2026. Sanjida Rahman was selected as the alternate recipient, should the primary awardee be unable to avail the bursary.
The programme also featured a presentation by Rehnuma Tabassum, recipient of the Rafiq Azam Travel Bursary 2024, who shared reflections from her journey to Sri Lanka. Through her presentation, she explored her observations and experiences of the country’s architecture, culture, landscapes, and built environment, demonstrating how travel can deepen an architect’s understanding of place, people, and context.
Following the presentation, the RATB 2024 Winner’s Certificate was formally presented in recognition of her achievement and participation in the programme.Fariva Ferdous Oishi from SHATOTTO architecture for green living and Kafil Uddin Jahin from BRAC University provided support and assistance , reflecting the continued collaboration between the two institutions in promoting experiential architectural education and the development of emerging architects.
